Tap the + button to add a wine. You can search the CellarTracker database by winery and wine name, or enter details manually. CellarTracker integration can fill in varietal, region, country, and related wine details.
Yes. Go to the Import section and use CellarTracker CSV Import. Export your collection from CellarTracker as a CSV file, then import it into Cellar Somm. The app matches entries and populates wine details, bottle lots, storage locations, and purchase history when available.
Each wine can have multiple bottle lots with quantity, bottle size, purchase price, store name, purchase date, storage location, and bin assignment. You can also mark lots as pending for shipments in transit and receive them later.
On wine detail, tap Log Event. Choose event type, add notes, score (100-point scale), occasion, and companions. Notes are searchable from the Tasting Notes section. You can optionally share notes with the Cellar Somm community.
You can log bottles as Drank, Gave Away, Sold, or Missing. Each event records date, quantity, and optional notes. The tasting-note event supports detailed notes and scoring for consumed bottles.
You can share tasting notes publicly with the Cellar Somm community. Other users with the same wine can view and reply if replies are enabled. You can delete replies and block users directly. Set a community username in Settings to participate. Content is moderated during posting, including checks for inappropriate language and potential plagiarism.
The AI Sommelier can answer questions about your cellar, generate wine summaries with critic scores and drink windows, suggest meal pairings, and provide cellar insights. It requires your own Gemini API key (free tier available with Google).
Cellar Somm’s Shared AI Key uses app-level quota limits per user, initially set at 250,000 input tokens/month.
Estimated usage capability for some common AI calls at the 250,000 input-token baseline:

When you use your own key, Cellar Somm shared-key throttles no longer apply. You use your own Google quota directly. With Gemini free-tier request limits (about 1,500 requests/day, ~45,000/month), request capacity is much higher than shared-key monthly request presets and it's unlikely that you will hit any Gemini limits. The Cellar Somm shared key should be looked at as a free way for new users to experience the app but to get the most performance from the Cellar Somm it's recommended to get your own free Gemini API key.
In short: same feature behavior, much higher personal request headroom. (Exact capacity still depends on your own Gemini plan, token usage, and Google limits.)
Your Gemini API key is stored in Apple Keychain on your device. Cellar Somm does not store your key on our servers. AI requests are sent directly from your device to Google Gemini.
Use Review Import to parse professional reviews from PDF exports. Supported sources include Wine Advocate, Vinous, James Suckling, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Spectator, and Decanter. Parsing quality depends on source formatting and PDF quality.
You are responsible for ensuring you have rights/subscriptions to access and use source content from third-party review sites.
In Settings, create manual backups or use daily automatic backups. Backups are stored locally on your device. You can restore from any saved backup, and up to 30 backups are retained automatically.
After restoring: restore is replace-only. The restored inventory replaces current local inventory and syncs to iCloud/CloudKit. Keep other devices open and let sync finish before making further edits.
Important: deleting the app removes local backup files stored in the app container. Before uninstalling, use Backup Folder sharing/export to copy backups to iCloud Drive or another safe location.
For extra protection:
Yes. Cellar Somm uses iCloud to sync data across devices signed into the same Apple ID.
Use Invoice Import to paste order text from purchase confirmations. AI extracts wines, store name, order date, and prices for review before adding items to your cellar.
Cellar Somm uses an annual subscription. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID settings on your device under Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions.
